From the title of the thread and the wording in your post, you seem to dislike this revival, yet weren't you all for the Slingerland revival deal with DW?What's the difference?

...Yes exactly...I concur...

Drum Bob...quote...They want drums that look like drums, not like empty thread spools, donuts, trumpet bells, pancakes, or someone's shorts ..

ermmm....so what are you trying to say here?

Yes...well, exactly....These types of drums aren't for people who gig one nighters, They are as much oddities, now, as they were back then. It's very unlikely that you will ever see a set of Speedfires set up in a Ramada Inn lounge or a V.F.W. Rather, they will be in "Man Caves" and "She Sheds". And, my guess is that anyone who buys a kit isn't going to go through bass drum heads...and if they did, then I highly doubt that affordability will be an issue. They won't be some kid's first kit, in other words.

The average drummer wants drums that look like traditional drums. They don't want oddities that stray too far from what a traditional drum or drumset looks like. Obviously, you're not that type of drummer and that's fine for you. All of those odd-shaped drums I mentioned were commercial flops here in the USA. Maybe things were different on your side of the ocean.

I'm kind of curious about how they'll be priced. These were pretty expensive BITD, so I imagine they will be again.

What do you guys think?

... ok here is the uk price..i have been told approximately £1,799....

Wow!!!

...Like i said though...think some of the unusual rare drums should be left as such and not made again as a repro's...

Really like the original vintage sets and have gigged mine regularly and also used them for recordings too....

Yeah, that's about $2300 American. Pretty steep for sure, but not completely out of line compared to some of the other boutique makers out there.

I don't know, so I'll ask, do they sound like their worth $2300, or are you paying for the gitchie look?

Big yes to Dave.

To me the main berry of Speedfire BD was in his two chambers with two pedals, allowing you to extract a unique sound.

Now we can see a light replica - only face, no more...

And where an incredible Trixon parallel snares? Nowhere....

Cheers,

George.

Heh...I dunno....I love the odd Trixon concept drums....I love modern art and those drums are what I see as utilitarian modern art. They can be viewed as a sculpture or played as an instrument. Okay with me if they bring back some of those old kits mainly because the originals are almost impossible to find. Plus, the originals are still more...well...original than any reproduction will ever be so the repros are no threat to that. Same with all the old drums we loved. They can try to revive old ideas but they can't seem to come up with any new ideas that were as forward-thinking (hopeful?) as some of these old concept drums were. They were supposed to be futuristic, but that future is now the past. Everything seems to have been figured out and settled upon, now. Traditional drums, as we know them, now, are here to stay. But long live the futurists, too. Without at least some forward thinking, our traditional drum design would still be hollow logs and rocks.

Yes exactly buddy...it's good to see replicas but they should have made the spec as it was...but then again..its also good to still keep the originals as the forerunner... Gretsch, Rogers etc... are all being reproduced and the Rogers do like pretty nice with the wrap too... so it seems that a lot of the vintage sets are all coming round to being copied...and they do say copying is the sincerest form of flattery!!
