Slingerland Radio King Project

Loading...

1950's Radio King Project. Gene Krupa Outfit. I finally got the pieces, will eventually wrap them all to match. Cleaning and 16" rim is needed. The leg mounts aren't original either. Should I try to find the originals or just let it go?

Eventually I will upload the finished project, but it's going to be a while.

Thanks for looking!

-Kevin

Wow.. great project. That will be something to really enjoy and take great pride in when it is complete.

Leg hardware... yeah... I am willing to bet it will drive you to distraction if you finish that project and don't have the correct leg hardware. I didn't think it would bug me but the legs on my Tower floor tom where like a mosquito bite until I got them right.

Keep us posted on your progress!!

I'm curious, if those bass legs were flipped around, would they fit the bracket style mounts that came along a little after for Slingy bass drums? I'm missing one leg for a '58 Slingy bass, and have passed on bidding on a couple of hoop-mounted legs cause I wasn't sure.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments guys. Let me try to get this all right.

The leg hardware isn't bothering me, because it seems to be old itself. I'm not sure if someone snagged leg brackets from another old kit, or what. I don't like that they adjust with a drum key (if you can see it) but I can maybe find some finger screws or whatever to change them out with.

No, the green sparkle isn't orignal. The previous owner said that it was a duco of some sort that was in real bad shape. It was wrapped in the mid 90's to the green sparkle. I'm going to wrap it all in something else, I am thinking Champagne Sparkle.

These bass legs work pretty well. I had my doubts about buying a set of them (obviously they are new), but once I got them on there, the bass doesn't walk at all.

Thanks for the comments and looking. My other things I am still thinking are:

Do I 're-open' the holes for both bass mounted cymbal mounts (I have the original arms)

Do I mount both mufflers back onto the drum, or leave them off (I have the original muffs as well)

I think that's all of them for now...I'm sure I will find something else, haha!

Yeah, I can't wait until they are finished. I probably won't splurge on the wrap until after X-mas though. Just too much $$ for this broke drummer.

Where will you get the wrap?

I saw Bermuda Sand aka, Champagne Sparkle listed at Precision for $199 (ouch!), but nothing at Jammin Sams or Drum Foundry.

Is there another source?

And, are those repro legs for your bass, or something vintage that you are considering replacing? I have a need for a leg that is mounted bracket-style, and wonder if legs like those would work... the angle looks good, maybe.

Thanks

Yeah, Precision Drum holds the Monopoly on the Bermuda Sparkle Wrap. That's why they charge DOUBLE the amount as the other wraps. I checked this out with the Delmar Wrap Co. (who makes it).

Anyway, the legs on there are repro's. Made by Cannon I believe. They work very well. Just takes a minute to find a good angle for the legs when mounted.
