MIJ Drums with Die-Cast Hoops

Loading...

Hi all!

A recent thread was posted about trying different hoops on MIJ drums. The discussion lead to showing an MIJ snare drum with factory die-cast hoops. I though it would be fun to show pictures that any of you might have of these drums. I'll start!

Attached are pictures of a "Karen" snare drum currently in my MIJ collection. It has the most unusual die-cast hoops I've ever seen! I'll let the pictures tell the story!

Next, here are two MIJ snare drums that I owned some years ago. The Red Pearl drum is a non-branded and the blue glass glitter drum was a Torodor. Both cool drums!

Hi George!

Yes, they do appear to be extremely strong! I've never seen this style before, but someone had to design the mold to cast it.

I had a BDP Crest set in 12/14/20 that had diecast hoops on the toms that appeared to be stock.

Great thread Mark!

I never would have thought that the MIJ drums would have die-cast hoops on them, simply because they're so ridiculously expensive! At least on the after market, your going to pay $50 each and up, according to size. You could actually spend 3 to 500 bucks to outfit your kit with aftermarket die-cast hoops!!! And I actually look at die-cast hoops as "high end" and something you would see on American made Gretsch kits, but not on low end stencil kits. I've actually never heard of Karen drums, yet it has a really cool looking die-cast hoop. Heck, even the unbranded snare has them. Really surprised.

So how do they sound anyway?

Surprised you MIJ guys never realized circle badge Zim Gar had DC quite often. Like I experienced they were not Stiff like Pearl or Gretsch "as we know them" They were very very soft and pliable.

flange hoops seem to go with rectangle badge zim gar

Wow, that Zim Gar snare is a beauty. Eucalyptus? Never saw a drum made with that wood. Looks very nice.

So eucalyptus wood and die cast hoops? I guess Zim Gar drums are the high end MIJs!
