That's a beautiful Gretsch BOP kit! Cool1 I love the vintage build-out, with the Maxwell rail and long spade arm, plus the reso-mounted Pratt muffler! Are those the Gretsch 302 hoops? They look great, but I do admit to being a Gretsch die-cast hoop snob!! LoLoLoLo

I think it's funny that Buddy Rich seems to always pop up during some of these threads. No one ever says, heh Gene Krupa or Ringo said this or that about this or that. We tend to put Buddy on a pedestal and forget he was a human being like the rest of us. We all have said or done things we later regret, I'm sure he did too.

I want to say one more thing about this thread, music in any form can move you and give joy to the listener. No one is right or wrong, if you don't like that type of music or a particular brand of drums, don't listen to that music or buy those drums, it's pretty simple.

I started banging on pots and pans and chairs at seven, put it aside for sports, and seriously started taking lessons at fourteen after about a year of continuing to bang on household objects. I took three years of lessons from the best teacher in my town, played in all the high school musical organizations-concert band, marching band, orchestra, wind ensemble, percussion ensemble-for three years, and have played all types of music professionally since 1967. My influences are swing drummers, rock drummers like Ringo, Keith Moon, Charlie Watts, Dino Danelli, Johny Barbata, Jerry Edmonton, Bobby Elliott, Kenney Jones and many others. Too many to name, really. Playing drums always came naturally. I had five first cousins (one is now deceased) and a sister, and I am the only who got the musical genes in the family. It's a gift from God and I try to use it wisely.

JR, you're exactly right; we don't all like the same things, so we have the right to like what we like and dislike things and express our opinions about it. Thank goodness, this forum is a very temperate place. Nobody gets on their high horse over provocative comments. Live and let live, I say.

I like how Gretsch pays tribute to their heritage with their drums, much like DW and Ludwig do. For what it's worth, I asked some guys who work at Forks what brand do they sell the most of and two guys answered at the same time with "Gretsch". The 2nd biggest seller was Ludwig.

Ludwig and Gretsch have been around for over 100 years, if dw reaches that milestone, then they can pay heritage to their drums. Clapping Happy2

No doubt, Gretsch and Ludwig are making quality products these days and it's great that American drum companies are flourishing again. Most of us remember the days of the 70's and 80's when Japan ruled the roost. It wasn't so bad; there were some great drums being made...overseas!

Never owned Rogers or Slingerland drums. Guess could say "I never got them"..

Enough to seek out and Purchase.

Actually I did "get them" and still never appealed enough to me.

Only a couple times, did they, really catch my eye.

I liked the memri-loc hardware (and that 76 catalog sets) But they died soon after.

Slingerland pretty impressive in all-chrome, then died eventually too.

Pearl drums never appealed to me. So yeah I "got" them all

enough.

Original "Fibes" appealed to me. Chance of ever in the 70s seeing a set in person Slim .

Tommy at Fibes offered me an endorsement deal late in his game, but it didn't work out. Nice drums though. Chris Layton played them at the time, and I love his drumming. I have a deep affection for Slingerland, as they were my first drumset and I like the look and sound they produce.

As I said, not all of us like the same drums for various reasons. It's all good.

I "got" Premier Drums.

I "got" Tama drums.

I "got" Gretsch and Ludwig and Baltimore Drum Co. drums..

Never "got" Rogers. Got " Slingerland" but never enough to own one. "Got" Yamaha but never enough to go after a full set..

Got "Pearl" drums but only own a couple drum keys and one snare (which I didn't need)

Owned one "DW" drum . A snare wood 6". Sold it. Jury still out if I "got" them. Fully endorse their BD pedals.
