Not sure if you guys can tell me what kind of wood these shells are made of by the pics, but I thought it was worth a shot. I'm assuming poplar but wanted some second opinions. The drums are Groove Percussion and I know they did make some maple shells but didn't know about the kit I have.

Well, in one light the color looks more like maple...but in the other picture, the greenish tinge makes them look like poplar. Grain can be variable in both species. I'd have to be able to see better pictures before making any real determination. Maple is a more expensive wood than poplar, so if the drums are inexpensive drums, then it's likely poplar. -my 2 cents

Yeah, the pics aren't the greatest. The first one (lighter color) is more true to how they look in person. I figure poplar but this kit also had a 10 lug kick drum which is usually a little uncommon for entry level kits.
My 2006 Pearl Export EXR has 6ply all Poplar shells, which look like those in your first picture. So, yes, I'd say they are most likely poplar, rather than maple.
