I'm not sure if the mount is there, but the whole thing is pretty useless anyway. It puts the tom too far to the left and doesn't hold, it's very flimsy, I would never use it.

Very true that 22" Stage Band bass drums are uncommon! You would generally see Stage Band outfits with nothing larger than a 20" bass drum. The 12x15 floor toms showed only up through Catalog 68, which is actually from 1967. Considering that the kit in question has a 22" bass drum and 13" tom, I would have expected the 14x16 floor tom. While the included 12x15 might seem a bit out of place here, it's a cool size nonetheless!

Slingerland had so many shades of blue over the decades, but the pictured color is probably a lighting issue.

As to the tom holder, yes, it's a less than ideal design! However, it is what it is and might be fun to try it just for authenticity's sake! In this case, mounting the tom on a stand is preferable to drilling holes in the bass drum for an aftermarket holder.

I'm deciding between this one and the Slingerland/Gretsch kit I have another thread on.

The Slingerland/Gretsch is $400 and pieced out is worth quite a bit more than the Stage Band.

In case you haven't seen the post, it has a 1965 Slingerland 12,16, rb Gretsch 22 in a champagne sparkle finish.

I respectfully call BS on your assertion that the tom would be too far over to the left on a rail mount. Where the hell do you think your snare drum stand places the tom? In the middle? You could take ten minutes out of your life to learn how to position the tom to your liking with the primitive mount depicted on the red sparkle bass drum.

Here's a picture of a Stage Band with a 20" kick, notice how far over the tom is, on a 22 it would be even further over. When I put a tom on a snare stand I can raise the tom a little higher and move it over so it's resting right next to the kick.

But, it doesn't really matter, because the Stage Band tom holder is crap and won't hold under moderate to heavy playing. I had one and believe me, it's the worst.

Btw, that primitive looking mount on the red sparkle kit is a Stage Band and if you notice, it doesn't allow you to move the tom any closer to the kick.

I've got a sweet Shelbyville version 20/14/13/14 dated Dec 1965/Jan 1966 and it kicks ass just like my Club Dates. The Oak rerings give a little more crack IMO.

The wrap has the orange peel thing going on after all these years so it looks like Hot Lava so Hot Lava Kit is what the band/wife call it. Other than that it's got a couple minor scratches on top of BD but this kit is stupid clean.

For sale too. I''ve got to let some of my collection go to make room for some other kits.

My experience with various types of older tom mounts--shell mounted and hoop mounted--have taught me how to make any of them work to place the tom in a comfortable playing position. I just looked at that picture of the red sparkle set again. I can visualize the drum sitting more toward the center of the drum set, angled to have the the tom within easy reach of the snare drum. I play my snare drum flat and low. Some drum stands such as the Buck Rogers stand can not get the snare drum positioned low enough for me. Some folks are just too set in their ways to learn how to make adjustments to the drums and the drummer in order to find a comfort level.

Are you not reading what I'm writing? That particular tom mount is set in one position on the kick, you can adjust the tom up or down, but you can't move tom to the the left or right on the kick. It's not like a rail mount where you can slide the tom to the left or right. But, like I said several times, it's useless, it will NOT hold under moderate to heavy playing, not to mention the stress the tom is putting on the kick with it that far over to the left.

I have my snare higher and tilted towards tom, much like Buddy Rich.

That riser arm can be rotated a couple of inches over to the right. I think that I can see a way to have the tom holder's ratchet come from the top of the bar rather than from the bottom of the bar to angle the drum down toward the snare drum. I'm not trying to argue with you about something that you have already decided can't be done. I know from experience that it can be done. Let it go. Neither of us is going to buy that drum set, anyway.

I'm not arguing with you, but if you've never used one, then you have no knowledge of how it works. I've had a kit with that mount and I'm telling you, it's a piece of crap.

Look at this picture, it has a tiny wing screw to secure arm on to mount on shell, the tom bracket has the same kind of wing screw. You can't hand tighten it enough to get it to hold and it's set in that one position, far left of the kick.
