Didn't see that coming

Today I bought a speed king off cl ($20) mainly because the footboard hinge hole is not as worn as mine, it was advised as bearings seized, but I knew it was probably just gummed up. I decided to take it apart clean and regrease, it was VERY gummed up...except there is only one spring. DOH:confused:

Was it designed as a single spring pedal? Or, can you insert a second spring from another pedal or spare parts?

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

the speed king has an enclosed compression spring in each tower, and one spring wasn't in one side, so probably difficult to find something that would work at home depot or a hardware store, only real spring replacement would be from another speed king I would think, I could try a drum store that sells some vintage stuff maybe they have some parts, but I was just going to sell it for a few bucks anyway since I have one,and mostly use a camco

You still got it for a good price, place an add for a spring here on the VDF. I may have one myself, I'll check.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

A good independent hardware store should have a spring that will work. You might even need to get two or three shorter springs to stack on top of each other.

myk - Check out the springs available from McMaster-Carr...

If they don't have it, you don't need it! I didn't check the shipping rates but I don't think they can be that much for such a small part (I'd just get a pair so that you have two new ones in that Squeak King).

You say you have one already with a worn hinge hole? Steal a spring from that.

I originally bought it for the foot plate because it has a less worn hinge hole, the uprights in my original one are in great shape and ive already cleaned and regreased it, I just wanted the better footboard. The one I just got I was going to clean, regrease and sell probably $20, with my original footboard, but..lol.

It's funny because the one I just got was so gummed up and the bottom screws didn't look like they were touched for a long time, I was surprised that there was only one spring
