Hey guys-little or zero interest in this drum. Too much?? Not vintage? I'm too impatient?

Anyone want to chime in? Brutal honesty or frankness not a problem with me.

Hi Dean, An interesting drum for certain. I read the ebay write-up. Perhaps it's the unfamiliarity with very late-chicago era Ludwig that many of us have. Collectable? Certainly, but perhaps not just yet for most folks.

I know that it seems weird to me - what *seems* to be a concert snare with those individually tuneable wires in the buttplate, and VERY old-school P87 - then with that electric blue wrap screaming 'turn up the 80s' in your face. But that one day will make it desireable as a 'who the heck in Ludwig thought this up' kind of collectible.

It's just a snare drum. It doesn't take up that much room. Hang on to it. Or offer Best offer or restart at 99 cents and see what happens?

Dean - Nice job finishing up this snare!

I would advise a bit more patience looking for a buyer. As I mentioned above you did a good job on the resto/refurb, I think it is priced fairly (a new LS403 ~ $500, more for an exotic finish); it has one of the best descriptions I've read (you were extremely thorough and honest, including that bit of wood filler as an example).

The things that will make this a bit slower sale than you may like is the color/type of the wrap and the snare mechanism. The finish is probably the second most important "feature" buyers fixate on, and I think a natural maple finish would probably be the fastest moving finish compared to Cortex (regardless of color). Also I don't think most consumers are aware of just how good the throw is - the P-87 is a great but under rated throw IMO.

The only tip I can offer is to improve the one photo of the interior looking down through the shell that shows the snare wires. To me, it looks like the mechanism isn't engaged and thus too much slack in the wires = poor visual alignment - making them look wonky to some potential buyers. Engage the mechanism, and re-shoot the pic and then hang on, your buyer is out there, you just haven't found them yet!

Hi Dean,

I'm attaching a link to make it easier for our members to see your drum. Hope that's OK!

Thanks for setting me straight. I'm relieved I'm not asking too much for it and being the last to know. I simply want to put a good product out at a fair price that will help a fellow drummer. I appreciate each of your insight and comments and compliments.

Hoppy, I'll add in a better photo showing taught snares-good idea.

Yes, I guess I'm way too impatient. I will hang on and hope this finds a good home and 2nd life.

Mark, thanks-would you mind explaining your steps to putting a link from eBay on here? I'd like to know how to do that as I have quite a bit of gear on eBay right now.

John were you at the PA drum show? Where were you exactly? Dean

Hi Dean!

Copying a link is fairly easy! I just went to your eBay page and then highlighted the address bar, normally by just left-clicking my mouse. Then, you just right-click, which will open up a drop-down box with one of the options being "copy". Left-click "copy". Next, you go back to VDF and in a new "reply", just click the little "world" icon that has a "link" below it. A bar opens up and you put your mouse cursor there. Now, just right click for options. Choose "paste" and your done! Does that make any sense? It's actually very easy, but if you've never done it, I can see how it might be confusing!

I agree with what was mentioned above. The drum's color I think might be the primary turn off. I love the strainer, but if I was to take it, I'd have to remove the cortex and either re-wrap it in black, or refinish it in a more neutral color. If it was wrapped in like black cortex, its probably a $300-$400 drum. I think the better snare system hampers it as most harder hitters like a system with less adjustments. If it had a P-32 on the butt side, rather than the P-34 I think you would be able to get maybe $100 or so more than the drum in this configuration.
