Thanks for bringing this to our attention. A quick Google search shows the same, but no further details. However, one can guess that his decades of smoking has something to do with this. Can't help but think this is not good.

The decades of drug use don't help either and he's not a young man. Sad to hear.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

He was a big influence on me as a young drummer, and I recreate his drum parts today in my Clapton tribute band, but he's a repellent personality, a nasty, bitter human being. I had a chance to meet Ginger years ago at a Modern Drummer Festival Weekend. I walked right past him backstage and didn't say a word. One of my journalist friends had tried to interview Ginger once, and Baker was so rude to him, he gave up and left.

Baker undoubtedly suffers from emphysema caused by years of heavy smoking. In the documentary, Beware Of Mr. Baker, there's a scene with him breathing through an oxygen mask. I wish him no harm, mind you. But if you smoke those poisonous cigarettes for decades, they're going to kill you eventually.

The Cream reunion was basically Clapton doing Baker and possibly Bruce a favor, as Baker was in dire financial straits by that point. Then, he took the money he made on the tour, millions supposedly, and squandered it somehow.

Watch Beware Of Mr. Baker. It's up on YouTube, I believe.
