It's thin. I'd imagine they toss that "Not recommended" thing on their website so that people stop sending them angry emails when they use them as batter heads, then play super heavy music and break them.

It's a "We told you not to do it. You didn't listen." kinda thing. But if it works, it works. I'd imagine you'll have to change out that head more often then something thicker/more durable if you're playing heavy stuff.

They say it can also be used as a "lightweight batter for sensitive playing", which I guess would mean, no death metal please! :D

So I agree with "whatarethese123" above, Aquarian is just covering themselves.

Most applications of "Diplomat" weight heads are typically for orchestral/classical work. Something where you need the sensitivity, yet aren't bashing away constantly on it like a death metal drummer. Yes its more sensitive, but it definitely is less durable in a normal modern player's application.....unless you are doing said orchestral work. You'll probably find the head's life very short lived in a rock application. And yes, Aquarian's warnings are a CYA for them.

That's all good info, thanks. I have many snare drums but I think I,ll keep this one for my gospel/worship trio where that extra sensitivity is really needed. I don't lay into it like other styles.

Well, I did use this drum and it sounds very nice for gospel music. Playing moderately, lots of buzz rolls, intricate patterns, etc, and the occasional rim shot to wake everyone up...I used a clear head only because I had it, however, I,d much prefer a coated head for brushes which I could not do, at least properly with the clear.
