Suddenly Inherited Rogers Kit From Brother - Restoration!

From Catherine

Will that be an issue from a buyer?

Hi Catherine!

Glad you liked how your brother's snare drum came out! As to the cosmetic issues being an issue with a buyer, I'm leaning more towards yes it will. I've always maintained that "condition is everything". Your Super Sensitive snare drum is now very clean and properly adjusted...and sounds great. There will be a market for this drum, but I'm not sure how much of a monetary hit it will take due to the cosmetics.

I'm hoping more of our members will chime in with their thoughts on what this drum should sell for.

Hi catherine

The condition of your ludwig 402SS for year is great. The 14x6.5 are in big demand and you need to hang on for a good price. Its absolutely all original some surface marks scuffs. Cant see any chrome falling off shell as most had very bad chrome. All rods and washers are all the same as some have odd tension rods. Its cleaned up great for year. To sum up you have a very sought after snare drum in absolute original condition. Better than just some players drum. The scuffs will make some difference. Here on ebay in the UK exact same snare drum as you in better condition. He wants £675GBP. He is not very realistic. I know in the USA prices do vary but there is no way you should take less than $400USD. Thats based on the condition of your drum. Some will try and get it off you for less. If you look on ebay USA you will see some staggering prices on these 14x6.5 SS snare drums. The rogers drums you need to sell them seperate to the snare drum. Then cymbals seperate plus hardware seperate. You will definitely bring more $$$$$$s that way. A lot of prices depend on how quick you want to sell. Im sure more on here will give you opinions. As a last note Mark IDFF has done a great job on the snare drum plus the rogers drums. ...Thx sean

Hi Sean!

Thank you for your thoughts on what this Ludwig SS is worth. You are correct that the model 411, 6.5x14, snare drum is a more sought after drum than the standard 5" model. Looking at "sold" drums on eBay, these drums have been selling for between approximately $250 - $500, depending on condition.

Yes, the shell has all those scratches and typical chrome "pimples", but there is no chrome flaking. There are still areas of light rust, but it's not too bad. All tension rods are clean and original, as are the washers. Every "sold" drum has a Remo snare-side head, which won't let the snare wires drop the way they should. You need a Ludwig head to have the mechanism work properly, and Catherine's drum has a proper Ludwig snare-side head.

It all comes down to actual worth and only the buying public can determine that. I'll be handling the sale of the drum and will box it up for shipping. We may even list it here on VDF and see if there is any interest.

Thanks again for your comments!

Isn't this drum a deeper one, at 16.5? Would that make a deeper sound? Is there a market for that?

And now I'll start cleaning the Rogers drums by Monday. I've already removed all the hardware from the shells. More fun awaits! LoLoLoLo

I can’t commend you enough mark for what your doing

God bless

Gary

Catherine good luck on the sale here mite not be the venue for it maybe eBay or another social media to get the word out as most here are collectors and have most of what they need any ways I see this drum brining about 425 in this shape

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
