I'll be working on the snare drum later today. This Ludwig SS needs the most amount of TLC than all the other Rogers drums! My plan is to restore one drum at a time. What fun!!

Except for polishing the Imperial lugs, I'm pretty much done with all the hardware...except for those dull and rusty hoops! I'm going to give your method a try, either later this afternoon when my patio cools down or tomorrow morning.

Nice of you to do this for a new member! She is lucky to have someone with your knowledge and precision to take this on. Im sure all the drums will be restored to perfection with you doing the work. Sounds like the bass hoop needs some glue?

And to give you a little more work (:D) once they're cleaned up, finish those hoops up with some Eagle Nevr Dull. They're wadded pads that come in a can and will really bring back the shine.

That bass drum hoop will need more than glue!! That particular area needs to be formed back to its original radius. I have a friend who owns a custom metal fabrication shop. He should be able to make me some metal plates with the correct radius that I can clamp onto the hoop, inside and outside, to bring the hoop back into shape as the glue dries. Does that sound like a good plan, or can you think of something else!

Rogers was using fairly thin hoops and even the front hoop as a bit of de-lamination. At least there's no missing wood like on the rear hoop!

I cleaned up the hoops with your method. Worked pretty darn good! Still some areas of the batter hoop that still have some cosmetic issues, but the difference between the "before" and "after" condition is like night and day! After cleaning, I polished them with Mother's Chrome Polish, which also helped to bring back the shine.

The drum has been completely assembled and tuned and I'll take pictures soon. The "before" pictures where taken around 6pm, so I'll take the "after" pictures at the same time, to have the same natural outdoor lighting. Only an hour and 15 minutes from now!

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls... the Ludwig 411 Super Sensitive snare drum is now complete! My hands are tired from cleaning! LoLoLoLo

Here are five pictures showing the complete drum. The shell is so shiny that it's difficult to take pictures without so much reflection! Yes, the scratches are showing in all their glory, but they're nice shiny scratches! Feel free to go back and look at all the "before" pictures!
