Beautiful, or just grandma’s linoleum? Last viewed: 4 minutes ago

A few months ago I had a friend over with his '68 Blue Oyster kit. Here it is next to my 1970 bowling ball version. The 60's Blue Oyster is very pretty up close, but fades to a greyish hue and lacks definition at a distance. It almost looks like faded OBP.

K.O., I was just figuring that out! I’ve seen some that have absolutely zero “3-Dimensionality” to them - they just look flat. At first, I was thinking that they were just not shiny, but your explanation confirms an opinion I was forming.John’s drums look spectacular in their depth, with a bit of silvery gray in them.

Yes, mine are 750xxx serials, which puts them among the very early b/o badges, 1969. The 13 was added later, has an Oct 70 date stamp, but still incredibly rich depth. So as KO pointed out, the 69/70 wraps are transitional; true 'bowling ball' OBP comes later.

Well, John, I’m looking for the tweener, like yours. And since you’re not yet ready to sell, I’ll be seeking one just like yours.

The one in the link on my original post appears to be like yours. Can you take a gander at it and confirm? I may be asking the seller to send me some better photos.

Yes, it does look grayer. Not unlike what typically happens to Sky Blue Pearl. Blues turn gray, blacks turn green. (Often - there are many exceptions)

My friend has one of the earliest mixed kits all same blue bowl wrap but 2 of toms are keystone the bd and ft are b/o

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
