A fellow drummer friend of almost 40 years is considering selling his Downbeat set. I am also thinking of buying it. He is the original owner. Also has the 4"x14" snare that came with the set. What is a fair price if he was like selling them now. Not what people are asking, but what someone could realistically sell, or buy them for. Nice condition, a little tom rash on the bass drum. not sure if he has the bottom rim for the floor. I think he does. Looks like one bass t rod is missing.

Looks like a nice players kit. As far as value? I’ll chime in. Common color, will need a few parts, has some nice “patina”. Desirable configuration and has the matching snare. $1500 minimum, but to the right buyer, a few hundred more.

I'd ask him what price would make him happy. See if you're on the same page.

I did, he was not sure but also mentioned $1500
15 seems high to me. Like has been said, it’s a common color and it’s not museum quality. Is the snare a Jazz Fest or Pioneer? With a Pioneer I would say 11, but with a Jazz Fest 12.5.
Currently looking for a 3-ply 24x14 Ludwig in champagne sparkle w/rail consolette and cymbal mount!
Offer him $1200 and point out what has been mentioned. It's red sparkle, for heaven's sake, not Mod Orange or another rare finish. Nice set, but let's be realistic.

It is the Down beat snare. 4"x14" has the same type lugs as the Piccalo .
If both snares are included, I think it is worth the $1500.

As he mentioned, the snare is a 4x14. That’s a $400+ dollar piece by itself! The kit is $1000 easy simply because it is a matching KB kit. A few parts will deduct a couple hundred easy. Just trying to give him an idea.

How is it possible an almost 40 year man is the original owner of a '65 drumset? Did their parents bought it new thinking some day they will have a drummer son and then it was storaged several years 'till he was born and grew?
