Hey there, I have a snare with this same single screw, double adjusted strainer.a Dau (Tochigi Gakki) 14x5 (1964-66?) in blue sparkle- identical strainer to yours. It came with the org wires attached using a clear, thin plastic strip with a single holes punched through it, then the screw you pictured there was placed going through the two holes and screwed down. So, simply put - a typical clear plastic strip with two holes and the screw goes throught them forming a loop to hold the snappys. I took it off immediately (I hate those old plastic strips) and used snare cord just like you did there. It work just fine.Dau Photos:You can see the damage due to age on the interior shell but the drum still sounds quite nice. Love the blue sparkle. Dau seems to have the same badge design as DelRay drums that were imported to the USA. I suspect Dau was the name and badge for the ones that stayed in Japan.

Osakabop: Thanks for posting the snare. Very similiar drum as far as the muffler and throwoff system. Yes the badge does like a Del Ray badge. So i take it someone just punched a hole in each strap or was that factory? Seems to me these throwoffs would use extended snare wires or maybe im wrong.

JAY: There was no badge on it, Looked like it had a 2-pin holes for the badge and some other weird looking 1/2" round hole but only halfway through the shell. The DW badge which was basically free looks so much better than what is underneath the badge.

Hey....I dig what you are sayin', totally.

It's just that, well.....y'know, putting an identifying mfr's marking on a drum which isn't made by that mfr and all...eh.....

Maybe as we are narrowing down its provenance, you can search for an appropriate vintage Japanese sorta badge....

I gotta say, though...it's a friggin' cool and unusual drum. The shell looks good, the hardware looks very cool. This was definitely a top-line snare, whoever made it....

Jay, I wouldnt sell the snare with the badge on it. i just put it on there to cover some holes up i couldnt stand looking at. Am i allowed to put a U.S Mercury semi pro badge on it?

Yes, I was disapointed when I received this Dau drum after an auction. It`s blue sparkle wrap is perfect, the strainer and the badge, hoops are all great but the shell interior seemed marginally dry rotted. It still maintains tension and there is sound integrity but essentially is a collector's piece or a practice room drum. I worry it`ll just crumble under high tension and strikes. I have other snares from this mid sixities period that look fantastic on the inside- makes me wonder what happended to this one?

If the shell is that bad, couldnt you use another japanese blue sparkle shell that has the same 3 hole throwoff on one one side and the 2-holes on the opposite side for the 2-hole butt plate and just drill the 3rd hole up above it to mount your other throwoff? I dont know exactly where the 2-hole butt plate mounts at but i can check some blue sparkle shells i have and see if that would be an option then you could swap all your hardware and badge to another shell. Come to think of it i bet the butt plate holes are wider. not sure havent looked myself yet.

I checked some shells and i see it wont work because the mounting holes are way off.
