Scored a set of Swingers today. OK sound for such an inexpensive kit. Complete with hardware, key, snare drum and Avanti cymbals. Told they are about 1971, some ink stamps inside several are “208”. Any input?

That date stamp is Aug. 1972.

Thanks, I plan to clean them up and put a couple new heads on them. Thin shells, they should sound good! Just need one lug for the snare drum.

Yes, all the lugs are plastic. I’ve found a replacement lug for the snare drum from a Sonor guy overseas.

My 1969-71 20/13/13/16 teardrop in blue onyx (other 13" rack tom not pictured)

and

My 1967 18/12/14/16 teardrop in turquoise sparkle. This was probably a made to order set because of the odd configuration, but the crazy spread works well for what I do.

Are you one of the few who still has the round cap for that snare throw ?

I've had a D-424 and this D-471 and neither has a cap. I've seen repros on the market, or rather snares with repros, but I don't think I've ever seen an old Sonor with the cap still on the throw in person.

Here's a 1950's "transition" kit I made from 50's shells and early sixties hardware. The veneer I applied myself (quite a PITA due to it being raw and not paper-backed). There's a thread I posted about it on DFO:https://www.drumforum.org/threads/sonor-late-50s-kit-restoration.125623/
