Gretsch Round Badge in Red Glass Glitter

Loading...

I recently picked up this 60's Round Badge Progessive Jazz kit in Red Glass Glitter.

The wrap is in very good condition except for a couple of small dings on the rack and bass. I plan to hang onto this one for a while and replaced a few original parts and have set them aside for future stewards of the kit in case they want to put the originals back on. I put on a new bass tom mount; spurs and mounts; and tom, snare and floor tom tension rods. I also bought a new cymbal arm as the kit had the mount, but no arm. It was missing a piece of the bass drum inlay, so I ordered new pieces from Precision and they are surpisingly a great match! I lightly sanded and spray painted the hoops to give them a fresher look. I feel the newer and shinier hardware will be more solid for playing than 50 year old metal that had flaked a bit or may not tighten and hold as well as newer metal.

I should be receiving some new rubber floor tom feet later today.

I put Remo Clasic Fit heads on it on the toms and snare. I cleaned the filthy bass reso head with Dawn and Borax as nothing else was removing the dirt and marks on it. The bass batter has an Attack single ply coated bass head.

Thanks to lanebune for help with the replacement claws and to everyone for the help and suggestions on heads and hardware.

I will need to play around with tom positioning. I will likely look for a 16" to add to the kit at some point.

Beautiful kit.

Nice and clean, and the work your doing will make it perfect. My one and only kit, an MIJ kit, is red sparkle, so yeah, I really dig this Gretsch!

Jimmy, this is the first Red glitter or sparkle kit I have ever owned. And, tons of kits have passed through my hands over the years. I really like it.

In 1975 I was in 5th grade and a friend got a Ludwig Club Date in red sparkle for Christmas. I always loved his kit. I am thinakful I was finally able to find a Gretsch Round Badge in such nice condition.

They didn’t make too many in R S......Most common were Champagne Sparkle and Midnight Blue

Well, you sure picked out a beautiful red glitter kit for your first. That's one I would aspire to have someday.

Enjoy it!
