Rogers Mardi Gras that got away.

Loading...

Thought I'd post this as I wipe away my tears...

https://cleveland.craigslist.org/msg/d/strongsville-rogers-drums-4-piece/6928799393.html

It is a Rogers Mardi Gras Pearl 3 piece with a Powertone snare (I think). Sizes are not listed. Typical crummy flip-phone pics make it tough to tell just how good/bad the condition is...certainly not mint, but for that price it is a steal I think. Old looking cymbals too! I called on it as soon as I saw it pop up, but alas I'm third in line. I hope one or both of the two people ahead of me are VDF members, so I can see some better pics posted.

I am speaking from a place of zero Rogers expertise, but I did read a blog post from Steve Maxwell who said that Mardi Gras wrap with beavertail lugs is a really rare thing...the up tom has them, pics are too bad to tell on the others.

Stop stringing and tuning your instrument, make music now.

I called at 9 am and left a msg. I tried again at 1. I'm kinda happy it's gone. I don't need another kit!

Hi Dave...damn I was hoping it might have gone to you.

It looked like (best case) it would take a lot of elbow grease. My elbows are running a little dry working on a MIJ kit this summer, but I would not have been able to resist the voo doo of the Mardi Gras.

Given that those look completely unrestored, it's very possible that bass and tom aren't B&B shells redrilled for Beavertails. That might be a rare 1963 Mardi Gras bass and tom (end of the Mardi Gras wrap and first availability of Beavertails). I'd love to see the numbers on those labels. Hope whoever gets them posts some updates here.

I just read a thread on the other forum. A guy from Ct. is driving over to get them. I'm sure they didn't go for $500.

Pretty sure you are misreading what jptrickster was saying.

Don't think the new owner is known yet.

Hope someone here got those drums. They will be very happy. 3 ply shells and tall hoops. Perhaps the best sounding Rogers. Only downside is most likely first generation beavertail lugs - the posts are prone to breaking off. I have the same MG bvtl kit and have had to hunt down a lot of second generation bvtl lugs for replacements.

The trick will be to find the matching beavertail floor tom.

I did indeed. My apologies.

I did hear back again from the seller last night. He told me that the drums were "tentatively sold" and that he would contact me if it falls through. That may fit with the out of town buyer story.
