With Slinglerland's shells, I've noticed that the inner ply of poplar seems to be made up of several pieces. There are definite, abrupt color changes within that ply, but I haven't actually been able to identify a gap between the pieces as of yet. I'm wondering, is poplar prone to sudden color changes, like from beige to dark brown? Or, was it common practice to stick several pieces of poplar within the middle ply instead of bending a single piece of wood?

I think that the middle ply of poplar was run vertically and you see the end grain, hence the difference in color.

Poplar does have abrupt color changes in it. It's green and purple and black and blonde.

So, essentially, they are exactly the same forumla as Ludwig's 3-ply shells, then?

Please list any appreciable differences -if there are any. For example: Are the r-rings different? Anything else?
