A guy offered to trade his 5-piece Slingerland Phantoms for my Slingerland Classic Rock Set. I go and check them out: they were almost perfect! The snare has been repaired along it’s seam, but it looks as good as the other drums. I don’t see a single scratch or crack on the drums.
We do the trade. I cased them up and drove them an hour to my home. They sat for a few hours, then I commence to setting them up.
Bass drum first, insert the spurs, attach the pedal. CRACK! The bass drum formed two curved cracks emanating from both screws of one of the spur mounts! I had elevated the reso hoop half an inch like I have always done with my conventional drums.
Deflated, I continued setting up the set, and the snare makes a ‘pop’ sound as I am setting it on the stand. A short crack coming from the strainer!
These drums live a charmed life for 45 years, then I get my grubbies on them and disaster strikes.
I backed away, checking for hidden cameras in my house. What the heck???!!!
