Gretsch 4160 SSB Lightning throw

Loading...

Hello

I am looking for a lightning throw off for my Gretsch 4160 snare project drum. It is seventies era SSB. The one I need has two bolt holes on the bottom and one on the top of that makes sense. Most I’ve seen online have this placement reversed with two up top and one below.

Thank you.

Hi Romulus!

I'll post some pictures of the two different styles of the Lightning throw off. The first is the one I believe you are looking for. It has the two bolts on the bottom and one on top. The second style, and the one that Gretsch still offers, has two bolts top and one on the bottom. It's pictured on my custom snare drum.

I just found these pictures on eBay. This one sold just last month for $85. Another one sold around the same time for almost $135! Looks like they can get pricey!

I'll answer for him: Yes.

5+ years ago...they were all over the net; now you'll have to call Forks..(carry a fourleaf clover in your shoe for a month) and Explorers...and have them rummage around in their drawers ( er...

The Side Lightning (and the later Lightning) have their roots in the old Gladstone part.

Hi jda!

Thanks for answering! Yes, romulus, you're going to have to track down this earlier Lightning strainer. Prepare to pay big bucks for it! Best of luck with your search!

Alright I can dig that!

I have heard of the “Gumby” throw off, but that’s for the photo on the right.

I have seen the side throws, though not as often, that one seems like it has the proper bolt pattern.

another beautiful thing about Gretsch throw offs ( besides them throwing off when you don't want them to- there is a fix for that) is that 3 or 4 of them, renown, side lightning, center lightning and (old) Microsensitve is..

Made to be operated on and off with a drumstick.

can't think of another maker like that

Thanks, I haven’t tried forks though I did try Explorers with no luck (by the way KC is an obscure place to find really great vintage gear). I also called Rupps LoDo drumguy, and other Denver area shops. And no such luck :( but now I know what to look for, also, I have Tim from Drumcity on the case as well.

Might I ask what is Gladstone?
