You said this for a second time in this discussion: "I never claimed there will be people lined up to pay "ridiculous money" for my drum. I never said that. I said I'm selling it at that price to break even". There is no way to interpret this twice-posted statement other than you paid this much for the drum. So, you think that someone else should also pay this much to take it off of your hands. My opinion is that you overpaid for it, and by letting other people know this, you severely limit the number of people who would consider paying that same price to buy it from you. What happened to the rest of the drum set? Did you sell it or trade it without the 14x14 floor tom?

I really think the reason for his initial comment on the high priced drum was that he wanted to say that he is not trying to gouge anyone because it's a 14" floor tom, but that he's only trying to recoup what he has in it.

The last two I've seen go off on eBay sold for well over $1000. Red sparkle was very close to $1200. The reasons for a purchase vary quite a bit. I sold a refinished (jet black) kit with a 20, 12, 14 configuration for about $1400 a year back. The guy wrote to me after he got the set and was totally thrilled with the sound of the 14x14, in particular. So sound is clearly a factor with a smaller floor tom. For a long time the Rogers 14x14 was harder to find because so many of their sets were sold in 20, 12, 16 configuration. The limited supply and wide interest created a high price environment. Interestingly enough it does not seem to translate to the total kit. That also tends to indicate that when one goes off on a high price, the buyer is looking to add that particular piece to an existing set.

This is exactly my point. I don't feel like loosing money on this drum, so I'm asking the price I paid for it so it's a zero-sum-deal.

Leedy, buddy, I get it. I don't think anyone should do anything. Nobody should spend what I'm asking unless they want to. It's a free world. I am gouging nobody, I am simply selling a drum. This drum can very easily be worth what I have in it to someone else. Very obviously not you.

Again, you think I overpaid. I disagree. The only person I am limiting selling this drum to is you. Nobody else cares. It's just a drum! I am so sorry I got your panties in a twist by asking $900 for a drum that has nothing to do with you.

I bought the drum as an orphan for a project that never came to fruition.

There are lots of things that are no longer made. This does not mean that this makes them worth a lot of money--not even those things that are of top quality. Mr. vintagemore2000 thinks that his opinions are better than mine with his small-minded statement. I tend to be cynical when it comes to a couple of things that are vintage drum related... overvaluing and Ludwig.
