1960's Keystone 6.5x14 superphonic year made????

Hello

I have a 6.5x14 Ludwig Supra #97385. I believe it is about a 1964 but I am not really sure. could anyone tell me what they think it is?

Also could anyone give me an estimated value? it has nice even pitting but NO dents and really nice shape aside from the pitting.

Hi TDK!

I would say that 1964 sounds right! I had a Pioneer snare drum, sn 340xxx, that was a 1966 and a Supra with sn 652xxx that was a 1968. The shell was date stamped NOV 1 1968.

Does your drum have a red felt muffler? That would certainly add to the value. When it come to price, condition is everything. Can you post pictures showing the pitting? Still, the 6.5" Supras, model 402, usually command more $$$ than the standard 5", model 400. I could see your drum being valued at $500+, depending on that pitting.

I've got several drums near that serial number with date stamps inside. That is a Spring '65 drum and most likely a March '65 drum. Red or White felt bat muffler would be correct. Could have brass or steel hoops or one of each. 6.5 Keystone Supras can get pricey.

What dictated whether or not a drum got one of each? I have a Super Ludwig with 1 brass and 1 steel hoop and thought the steel was just put on later by the former owner. That could be stock?

In the mid 60's, they were transitioning from brass hoops to steel hoops. They apparently just used what was in the "bin" during installation. Pretty common on '65s.

I am reassembling March 1965 snare after cleaning the parts and I see that I have washers that go between the inside shell and the cup washers that hold the lugs on. I have looked at other snares that are 1966 models and do not see the extra washer. I am sure that the drum came originally that way but not 100% sure. Can anyone tell me if they have seen this

I have seen the washers go on the other side of the cup washers. It looks a little strange but that is the way they were assembled on the ones that I have run across.

I’ve had problems uploading photos as well. I have better luck when I upload from my PC and edit the size of the photos to the guidelines listed under managing attachments.

My problems I think are when I try and upload from my iPad.
