My Blue Ripple Star Drums

Loading...

Here’s some pics of a Star kit that I purchased some time ago but it took some time to get here. All original except for the bass drum hoops - I’m not sure about those. The snare lacks its tone control and the floor tom it’s bottom hoop. The throw off on the snare does not stay in position. The shells are the thicker ones with no re-rings and are all painted black inside. I’ve done no cleaning up yet but they already shine. The color / wrap is a browny swirl but was originally a blueish color based on the under lug color - it appears to be what is called Blue Ripple wrap. They really are in great condition and the bearing edges as smooth as the day they left the factory in Japan. I will clean up and post some more pics. Thanks for checking them out.

Cheers

Erik

So interesting, the aging color change from blue to brown. The brown is a very unique look. I like it.

Black Label!

I collect, restore and play with vintage Stars! Yours are beautiful! They're gonna sound good too! Nice kit, sir!

Hi there - I was under the impression (and quite sure) that my drums were Blue Ripple wrap which faded into brown until I came across a pic on Ralf's Star-Drums website which to me appears to be a closer match. It is referred to as an oyster pearl. The first pic is the oyster pearl, the second pic is my kit and the 3rd is the blue ripple. What do you guys think?

Hi Erik! Great looking set of Star drums! I looked through my online copy of the Star 1967 catalog and am attaching the page showing their finishes. Maybe your kit is "Tiger Pearl"?

Thanks idrum4fun! The Tiger Pearl is definitely close. It's actually a damn cool wrap. Brown is definitely not a common wrap color and I can't imagine a hugely popular color, which makes it even more appealing to me:-) Have a great day.
