70s Slingerland Snare

Loading...

Hey y'all, I found this drum and I'm not sure whether to bite and buy it. Do y'all think the scratches would clean up nice and pretty? Also, could anyone properly ID it? It's a 10 lug Slingerland with a Zoomatic, which (with the badge) makes me think it's a late 70s Sound King. Are there any other drums it could possibly be? What's the price point I should be trying to get this at?

As always, thanks for any help/guidance!

Yes, COB. I have one from the mid-1970s that cleaned up really well with Windex as a first step to get the easy stuff off the top, and then NevrDull from the auto parts store for the deep clean. Windex as a third step to get any remaining film or artifacts off. Looks and sounds great, and it actually had the original warranty card and batter head with it when I got it - paid $30 for it!

The rims are in fine condition, throw looks alright, but I assume will need some tinkering with. I'm mainly worried about the ability to properly clean it and remove the scratches from the lugs. (And straightening the badge, which I assume isn't too difficult?) He wants a reasonable amount, but that doesn't mean I can't try to talk him down!

They are a beautiful sounding drum... I have owned several & currently have a 6.5" 10lug & a 5" 8lug I'd say go for it.

Cheers

John

And just had a 2nd look at the image... most of what I see there will clean up nicely including the rusted lug inserts...

I think I'll probably take it. Worst case ontario, I'll sell it, but I'm sure it'll sit on a shelf next to my Jazz Fest and Supra. (Figure I need to branch out into other brands!)

Just need to figure out when to go out that way and pick it up.

We non Ludwig fans will agree that you need to expand your horizons to include other--better sounding--brands.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
