CT Drum Show

I got to the show just in time to see Paul's presentation on the history of Zildjian cymbals. Fantastic! I think I enjoyed that more than Steve Smith's clinic. Sorry guys, I should have taken pictures of all the great vintage gear to share here, but I was too busy rummaging through piles of vintage parts, stands, cymbals, pedals, etc. I was especially impressed by the number of pre-1930's snares displayed.... more than I've seen in recent years, and the pricing was for the most part very fair. I'm still kicking myself for not buying a beautiful, rare 1920's W&A snare with an asking price of $200.

Sorry I didn't bump into any fellow VDF members. We may have simply missed each other in the crowd, or perhaps literally bumped into each other with knowing. Next year, I'll wear a "VDF" t-shirt instead of my usual Rogers shirt.

Okay, if I make up the shirt, I'll share. Vistaprint.com will put any graphic or photo on anything... clothing, coffee cups, etc. I've used them to make up t-shirts for all the bands, groups, and organizations I've belonged to.

I'm thinking of using the old familiar bass drum shield with initials as a logo for the VDF, but of course, we'd need approval first from our admins and moderator. Actually, this site should have it's own trademarked logo and clothing line. It would be a fun way to support the wonderful service this ad-free site provides.

Good idea Mike on the shirts.

I am interested in more info on the 20's W&A snare.

What was the wrap color or was it natural\wood?

Was it Jeremy who had it?

Any pictures?

Well hey Mike!

The t shirt idea has been bandied about in the past .. so .. let's revisit it! Let me see what I can do for you on that! In the interim ... I happened to see these two VERY SUSPICIOUS characters in the background on a pic I saw from the latest CT Drum Show. I cropped out the main subject, but didn't think BIII would mind being the focal point. Any thoughts on just WHO they might be??!! They look a tad shady to me ... especially the guy in the hat!

Tommy! What a bizarre coincidence! Yep, that's me in the Rogers shirt and Fred in the Slingerland shirt. I didn't even realize we were standing right behind WFL III himself. Well, at least that's proof that I was there. So why haven't we seen you at the show? I'm sure you'd find lot's of stuff you'd like. I was looking at a Rogers canister throne in WMP, but the price was sky high. Maybe we'll get you there next year. Hopefully, Joe M. will be have his booth there again.

Wayne,

No it wasn't Jeremy's. Didn't take a picture of it, but below is a picture of the same exact model. What I found interesting about it was that it had a tiny throw-off lever at the bottom of the snare strainer. Never saw one of those before. Damn I should have bought it.

Hey Mike!

Ja! ... I thought that was kind of neat when I saw yews twos in the background. As to where was I ... well ... truth be told, I've been going to that show since it was held back in the Newington American Legion! I've probably been 10 times anyway. As for recently though... just the way it's been working out. I've just had stuff going on the day of the show! This year was our oldest daughter's "Jack and Jill"as her wedding is in May. Actually, I SHOULD have blown off the J&J and gone to the show to SELL! ... as that way I could recoup some of the jing I'm laying out for her wedding! Hopefully next year! As to Joe Montineri ...

... we talk all the time. Joe had told me he wasn't going to do the show this year. I suspect he will be back next year though. I may do a booth with him actually! Regarding the Rogers WMP canister throne: I have one! .. but .. and this is kinda neat: I got a text from a friend of mine giving me 1st go at it prior to the show. He sent pics too. It was indeed a BEAUTY! Was priced right on up there .. but .. for the guy that has to have it, or has been looking for like forever ... well, you know! Lot of times if the item is still there at the end the seller will take a reduced price too! You just never know.

GLAD you enjoyed the spy/eye pic I put up! I figured you and Freddie Mac might get a kick out of it. Maybe I'll see you this season if we are working with the show close enough for you to come out. Just did the Infinity this past January .. but this time .. whole new approach/show. Was a blast! Here's a pic!
