Ludwig tom bracket and floor tom bracket spacing/positioning?

Loading...

Hi all,

I am going to be converting a pair of 1970s 12" and 16" Ludwig concert toms into a rack and floor tom, respectively. This entails installing P1216D mounts to both for the L-arm and legs, following Ludwig's standards at the time. I seek advice on:

1. The distance from the top drum edge to the top hole center for the rack tom mount;

2. The distance from the bottom drum edge to the bottom hole center for the floor tom leg brackets (I found 3 5/8" on another thread on VDF, is this correct?); and

3. The distribution of the floor tom leg brackets along the shell (on same thread I found 3, 6, and 10:30 for an 18" - is this also correct?)

Thanks in advance!

I converted a 12 inch 70's Ludwig concert tom for this outfit and found I had to stagger the lugs. The lugs on concert toms are mounted a good deal closer to the center of the drum than 2-headed models.....at least this was the case for me. Pic shows the 12-incher concert converted and a 2-headed 13-incher that came with the outfit.

Thanks

Oh sorry - I wasn't clear; I am keeping them as concert toms, but instead of using the standard clip mounts, I will mount them like a traditional rack and floor tom. So my question is regarding the correct placement of the rack tom's mount, and the floor tom's leg mounts.

By the way - do you happen to still have the bottom trim ring from when you concerted that 12"?

I believe that had you used the small lugs you wouldn't have had to stagger them.

Well, it was gifted to me wrapped and drilled, so I went with the stagger option.

That'll teach me to post before my 3rd cup of coffee :D Of course a 12" concert tom would have the large lugs.
