Concert tom "flashing"?

Yes that is fantastic work. I'm all for a little fabrication.

I made my own clubdate floor tom clips. I will experiment with your design.

Nice kit. I have one which is a regular 58N Pop Kit with 20" kick and 16x14 floor tom. Somewhere along the line an 18" floor tom was added, a bunch of the hardware was modernized, and the kick drum lining removed. I love this little kit!

Anyway, every once in a while I see somebody selling the actual Slingerland trim on eBay so if you're diligent and patient you might luck out.

They aren't Slingerland, but right now on eBay somebody has a set of Ludwig 12-13-14 concert tom bottom trim for sale: https://www.ebay.com/itm/12-13-14-LUDWIG-BOTTOM-RIMS-FOR-CONCERT-TOMS-SET-OF-3/113685735774

They're probably the exact same thing to be honest.

They certainly do look like they were probably from the same supplier as Slingerland used.

My 1974 6" 8" 10" 14" 15" 16" Ludwig concert toms were 3 ply, no trim on the bottom just rerings and bearing edges on the reso side too. Small lugs. You could easily convert the 14" 15" 16" any of them, into double side toms. 10" and 14" were lost in a fire and when I replaced them unknown to me Ludwig had gone to the 6 ply maple with the aluminum band on the reso. The 10" and 14" replacements also had the large lugs on them which were fine because they matched the lugs on my Hollywood set. Anyway, those aluminum strips are two pieces and they are riveted in, not screws, and crimped over the bearing edge. No rerings on these. I am thinking if you ever tried to remove them it would mess up the bearing edge ? So I am curious how those strips for sale survived removal . Just looking at those on eBay. Maybe the rivet looking on mine are just hexagon head screws ?

Vibes.... your Ludwig's are unlikely to be rivets if they have hex heads...

(Slingerland used Phillips head c/s screws)

Cheers

The trim started out as plain aluminum flat bar stock from Home Depot. I filed a subtle profile on the stock, as illustrated on the piece of paper on one of the photos. In order to curl the stock, I made the three-wheeled bender you see in the photos

Wow, those look great. Nice work.

To the OP, sorry that I didn't realize the FT needed the trim as well. Unfortunately the eBay auction I linked doesn't have that size.

Also re: the 22" kick size seeming odd, while the standard size was originally 20" when they introduced the 58N, the 1976 Slingerland catalog shows that they changed to 22", with 20" and 24" being an option at no cost. Although, by that point the toms had the trim installed as well. so perhaps your kit falls inbetween that time.

Not sure how easy or hard it would be to form this into a circle but the flashing on the bottom of the single Slingerland concert tom I own is similar to this. Aluminum extrusion formed to go around the drum. I doubt it was made exclusively for Slingerland but rather was a standard extrusion of some sort that they sourced for that use.

It`s not easy at all. Example,.... take a sheet of paper out of the printer, fold a little 90 on it, then try to wrap it around a sauce pan or something. You will see what I mean, it's no different than Aluminum.

I brake sheet metal all the time.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!
