1961 Slingerland Snare Question-Please Help!

Loading...

Hey all, this is my first post, but a friend on another forum recommended I come here to get my vintage drum questions answered.

Let me by saying that when it comes to Slinerland, I am a complete newbie. Ludwigs I know a little something about, but Slingerlands are a complete mystery to me.

Anyway, I have a friend who is a teacher and he has a pretty thrashed Slingerland snare that he is going to let me have. (I am giving a modern Gretsch snare to help the school out.) The throw/strainer mechanism is a disaster. Can anyone help me identify what it is supposed to look like and where I can get a working model?

Secondly, can anyone identify what model this snare is? I'd guess it is a 3 ply mahogany, but I have no idea. Thanks for the help!

Paul

Thanks very much for the welcome and the info! Much appreciated! Jaye, is there anyone you know of that makes a 3-point strainer? I'd like to at least get it up and running to hear how it sounds, before I drop some serious coin into rehabing it.

I was going to guess Concert King... but that muffler placement has me stumped..

Maybe a Student Model Radio King... ah heck, I don't know... but like Jaye said that strainer and double pad muffler can indeed be sought after parts.

That would be a fun project drum...

Somebody will know exactly what it is I'm sure.

Pick up "The Slingerland Book" by Rob Cook.. you will have all you need to go find all the right parts to make her whole again.

Not a Guru... just interested..

Maybe this will fit

On Ebay... item 400078148958

The auction has ended, but perhaps you can find another through the seller since it is a repro.

From Chunkaway

The first one will...not sure nor would I use the second one.

You may want to check the hole spacing with those Leedy repros. (Usually, the originals, like the one in the ebay ad, tend to go for a lot of $.
