Cutting a bass drum head

So I wrote to Remo:

Sorry to be a pest but I've got somebody who absolutely refuses to believe that Evans Hydraulic heads have oil in them but your two ply heads (Emperor and Pinstripes) do not. I can show him links to product descriptions, the physics of the interference patterns, discussions on drum forums. Nothing budges him. I don't want to cut into my Pinstripes and I don't even think that would do it if I had a video to show him. Can you please confirm that you don't have oil between the layers? If there is such a FAQ or entry in the forum then my search there came up with nothing.

and received this reply

Hello,Thanks for contacting us. We do not have oil in our pinstripes or any other drumhead we make. thanks! Brian LeVan - Global Sales & Product Support ManagerRemo Inc.

Just sort of on the subject....

Evans blue heads do get a bit messy when a layer breaks .. I have had the silicon oil let loose on a snare at a Gig.

Re the pinstripes (that have no oil) … I often clean up used heads when restoring old drums. Usually tooth brush with window cleaner or good old Dawn then submerge & rinse them in a tub. Hang outside to dry. In the process I learned that Pinstripes "ain't" watertight.. I have had a few that have amassed water between the layers during the dunking. It takes days for the water to evaporate/dissipate. A couple of years ago I mounted one to a drum whilst it still had water trapped inside.... It sounded fantastic... Remo take note... Just saying..Soap Box

Cheers

John

I guess that solves that.

I put two pieces of clear plastic sheet together to try and get that effect, I couldn't get that effect. I wonder why. Even with a little bit of spray lube.

But it is solved none the less.

I didn't say that, I merely asked a question. Why are we still talking about this? The world is round, we landed on the moon and there's no oil in any Remo head.Hurting
