I got him beat on the HH, I don`t do the fingers under yet, because I`m quick with a stick, but I aint giving up on fluid talent that he had, I got most of his rim stuff, easy, like him, He`s got a third gear I can`t find. I got the single BD speed as well and would crush him with the double single pedal BD`s. I`ve been playing without vocals 99% of my life. I got a decent bass guitar and had a killer lead for a while. I don`t think I ever saw Buddy play in a band with vocals. Did He ? I refuse to stand fast and accept I might not ever,....Charge or it wont get done.

Wait a minute! You're saying you can play the hats and kick better than Buddy? I'd have to see it to believe it, post a video.

That'll be a goal. There's too, too,so much he has over me now.

I,ll put my hats up against his. Win or lose he`ll know I can play them.

BD`s I`ve never seen him do single pedal, double BD`s. I'll put my heels against his,...win or lose, he'll know I can play them.

I have never even tried the moves he does yet being fluent. My kit's up in the sky and there`s seven of them.

I took out the hats and snare a while back and said, I can do that, turns out I can do some of that.

Anyways yes, I`ll go at it with the kick and hats, with anyone. Just don`t go near that guy in Boston with the white bucket.

Hello OB!

Little late to the party here, but just saw the thread. Flattered you would solicit an opinion from me!, and yes indeed ... huge BR fan for sure! The focus of my BR pursuits have primarily been from researching all his different endorsements, with a heavy focus on all the different snare drums he “favored” between 1950 and 1982. Buddy’s playing is of course an absolute! I saw him LIVE 5 times between 1972 and 1978, and each performance was just mind numbing, and I mean that in a good way of course! Over the decades I have lifted little things he does and incorporated them into my playing and approach, but more from a nuance application rather than his incredible speed/chops. So in that regard, I have nothing I could share with you, and especially trying to engage that third gear! Sounds like you’re having a blast with it as it is! As to acheiving that final push ... Moeller possibly? As Buddy used to say ... Straight ahead!

I am Tommy. That`s What I want to do, add or sample a few licks of his rim work. Simply a sampling thing because unlike you I wasn't there. I want to be able to put on a solo like his, ten fifteen minutes. Putting things in there grabs the grove.

I learned to float both sticks well but not at will if ya know what i mean. Very close though, I`m already flipping the wrist and push pulling. It`s mad cool. But that last rim gear he puts on is impossible but he`s doing it. I tried top fingers today but that'not it either cuz I noticed he only has one on top when he does it and he starts it with the left hand hard. Very tough to know how he`s does that.

Thanks for replying though. I`ll find that third gear in that two speed tranny.

Oh I also left it open for other guys too. I saw a video here of a member (I forget who it was) playing Bonham with his hands, I couldn`t tell the difference. I was thinking of making one like BR did. I wont give up the hunt.

Buddy was right, there is no apex, only a lot more to it than that.....
