What bonding material is used to wrap?

I'm trying to find out what Gretsch uses now to bond their wraps to their shells at the factory in Ridgeland SC.

I'm looking at refinishing a 3pc shellpack .....2012 DropG badged with 18bd, 12 & 14 toms

I need to know what bonding material I would be up against before making a final decision.

Anyone here know?

I don't know what Gretsch used, but for what it's worth, I saw a video where Ms. Ann Ross used the 3M 90 spray adhesive. She's wrapped Ludwig's drums since 1986.

Now, she wraps Ludwigs with the 3M adhesive already applied to the wrap. I'd guess Gretsch does/did the same using a high strength adhesive used for countertops.

You should try to contact Steve Maxwell,He`s here a lot, but he is probably at the Gretsch factory more.

Been trying to do that. I did just now send Jess at the NY store a message asking what glue Gretsch uses.

Double sided carpet tape works good, no fumes, no mess and should you want to de-wrap the kit, it is super easy.

Keep fixing them up...

My drums were wrapped with the awesome Champagne Sparkle at the Gretsch factory iin 2012 - it was a Custom USA order with Vintage buildout. 18bd and 12 and 14 toms. Bass drum without a tom mount.

The drums beautiful - the wrap gorgeous. But.....I have 5 Gretsch kits and do not want any more drum kits.....I'm trying to sell some and downsize.

I do however want a small kit in the finish that Ray Ayotte put on my SSB late 69 8x12 Gretsch tom. I do NOT want to strip the Gold Sparkle wrap from my late 50's factory wrapped drums. That was something I did look at doing but I just can't do that to this old kit. I do feel less guilty thinking about doing it to my 2012 DropG badged 3pc shellpack though. If the wrap absolutely can't be removed without damage to the wrap or shells there is no way I will go through with it.

Due to OSHA regulations for a long time now, I would think that all US manufactures, and those who offer wrap services, are using a water-based glue. That includes 3M 30NF and other brands. A good quality heat gun should soften up the wrap and glue and allow removal without damaging the wood.

Thanks Mark.

I want to remove the beautiful 2011 Champagne Sparkle wrap undamaged. I won't even start to remove it unless I'm sure I can do it without damaging the wood AND the wrap
