New Ludwig Stuff for NAMM 2019

Exactly! Ludwig has had it's ups and downs, but now I think they are better than anytime in their long history. There's a reason why they survived while most of their American competitors are no longer in business.

I love Ludwig as much as you and have been a fan of these drums since 1959, but I do wonder whether they would have survived if Joe Morello and especially Ringo had chosen other drums.

Let's not forget Buddy Rich, Papa Jo Jones, John Bonham, Ginger Baker and many of the most influential players. Ludwig always attracted the top drummers.

That's an interesting question. I think Ludwig would have survived because they focused on supplying schools, but I'm thankful that Ringo chose wisely back in the day.

With regard to their current drums and hardware, I think they're killing it and their products have never been better. Some recent videos from Drum Center Portsmouth sum up where Ludwig is at and what they've done over the last 10 years. According to Shane, Ludwig built the Drum Center of Portsmouth. Ludwig is their #1 brand.

I specifically mentioned Joe Morello because of his year to year ranking in the Downbeat and Playboy jazz polls in the early '60s just before Ringo played Ludwigs on the Ed Sullivan program.

The new Avocado Strata is pretty cool, but IMO isn’t in the same bowl of guacamole as the original. At least it is no longer being treated like a seciond class (Standard) wrap, as it is now available on the top line kits.

Stop stringing and tuning your instrument, make music now.
