Rogers Luxor Champagne Sparkle

I recently acquired a very nice Rogers Luxor snare drum shell, wrapped in original Champagne Sparkle. I have the same drum, but with a faded Silver Sparkle wrap, in my collection. I'm transferring all the parts to the new shell. This was also a good time to finally clean and polish all the parts.

The Bantam strainer showed absolutely no signs of internal wear! It has been fully cleaned and re-greased for excellent operation. I also removed the springs and lug inserts from the lugs. All parts were soaked in Dawn overnight and looked pretty clean the next day.

I decided to use a small soft wire metal brush in my hand drill to remove the years of rust and corrosion from the lug attaching hardware. They look great!

I have the original Rogers snare-side head. It does have a very small tear, but doesn't cause any issues. Since this drum will be for display only, I've decided to install my Rogers NOS coated Ambassador head.

I'll complete the drum later today and post more pictures!

Hi Jim!

Here's a picture of the greases I normally will use. For the Bantam strainer, I went with the "waterproof" grease. It's a bluish-green grease. I applied a thin coating, with a Q-tip, to all the places subjected to metal-to-metal contact. Worked really well.

Here are some pictures of the finished drum. Because I wanted to test the sound, I installed the vintage Remo head that came with the original Silver Sparkle Luxor shell. The drum sounds woody and meaty with those six lugs! I'll install the NOS Rogers coated Ambassador before the drum takes its place on the shelf in the Drum Room!

Ok, just wanted to be sure what you wanted to do. For myself, I very rarely lubricate the tension rods anymore. What I normally do is to chase the threads of the lug inserts with a 12-24 tap to remove any built up crud and clean the tension rod threads with 0000 steel wool. However, I do find that a drop of Tri-Flow (it's a good lubricant with teflon) works great. I'm just not a big fan of any grease on the tension rods. I know that everyone has there own opinion and method and mine is just what I use.
