Custom Rogers Kit

Loading...

I have wanted to do a custom drum kit for a while, lugs, wrap etc...so I decided to buy a donor kit (Sawtooth Command) for the hardware (tube lugs, hoops, claws, spurs etc.) I know this hardware isn't the same as the higher quality stuff but I couldn't beat the price...(around $350 shipped from amazon). I was originally going to use some shells I had laying around...an 80's USA Ludwig Rocker kick, 14" Ludwig B/O rack tom and 16" Rogers Holiday floor tom. But then a friend of mine let me have some Rogers shells he had so I decided to do an all Rogers setup instead of using the two Ludwig shells. So I have a 22" Power Tone kick, 12" Big R rack tom, 13" Holiday rack tom and a Holiday 16" floor tom.

The Rogers shells already had extra holes drilled, the wrap was crap, so I didn't feel too bad using different lugs etc. These are the first vintage Rogers drums I have ever owned and I am impressed. Very easy to tune up and sound great! I have some Rogers badges on the way. The pics are before I added finished the 12" rack tom.

Very "clean" looking kit. Nice job! Just wondering where you got your wrap and what it's called? Thanks.

Thanks! The "wrap" is actually vinyl fabric. I did a video on it on youtube: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1HBiJJjZ6c"]How to Wrap Drums the Cheap and Easy Way - Step by Step - Covering Drum Shells - YouTube[/ame]

I usually get my stuff from Fabric Empire: http://www.fabricempire.com/vinyl-fabric.aspx

The material I used on this Rogers kit came off of ebay because Fabric Empire didn't have this particular fabric, but it was shipped folded in a plastic mailer which was a pain trying to get it to not show creases. Fabric Empire shipped them on a roll, so no creases.

Few more pics with the 2nd rack tom added. Ignore the Sawtooth heads...figured I would still use them since I don't have other heads to replace them with yet.

Great job! Nice balance between modern & retro. That vinyl wraps actually looks nicer than a lot of the big company's offerings these days. And the creamy caramel center is made of Rogers, which happens to be my favourite flavour.
