I don't claim to be a Pearl expert by any means, but in rummaging through some old literature on the "catweb" site, I'm thinking you may be looking at a Sessions kit circa 2002 in the "Vintage Fade" finish, but it is hard to tell without seeing more of the drum(s).

The Session series went (and continues to go) through many iterations, but essentially, it ranks higher than the Export series and below the Masters series. If you are looking at a 5 piece shell pack, with a snare, plus hardware and cymbals, $550 is not unreasonable. I'd probably offer $450-$500 just to see if they'd go for it. Session kits have a lot of Masters level hardware and are very well built. I have a Session Studio birch kit and have been very pleased with it. They just lack a few things that many players seem to fixate over (8 lugs on the bass vs 10 lugs, etc).

If you are looking for a solid players kit, it's not a bad deal. If you are looking for an investment kit, then this probably isn't the kit for you.

I'll ask around the Pearl forum to try to get some more definitive info for you.
