question Identifying Slingerland snare model and year

Loading...

Hello folks my first post here.

Thought I would seek out a little help.

Picked this Beautiful lady up at a thrift store sitting in a corner.

Evidently nobody would ask her to dance.

I'm wondering if I'm correct the badge would be 60-62?

What would the model be?

I've been enjoying browsing the site and I finally decided to join up.

Thanks,

Hello Skunk Works...and Welcome to the forum!

I'd love to find a snare like this, just sitting in the corner of a thrift store! You are correct that the Niles badge, with no serial number, is from 1960-62. The snare appears to be an 8-lug, correct? If so, it's the popular Hollywood Ace model, wrapped in beautiful "Sparkling Pink Champagne Pearl! If it's a 6-lug, it would be the Deluxe Student. Either way, it's a good score. Enjoy!

Good info from Mark. The year can actually be narrowed down further to '61 or '62. According to Dr. CJ Wenk that badge was only used for a portion of those two years. A 3-ply shell with a mahogany interior would be expected for your drum. Check for a date stamp on the interior of the drum as they were very common those years. I am betting '62 based on the strainer. Nice find.

Thank you all for the welcome and kind words.

Mark, you are correct it is the 8 lug so Hollywood Ace for sure!

I will check for a date stamp slingerfan. I haven't had a chance to take her apart.

Ps, it came with a vintage case, stand and practice pad.

Thank you Mark, Kevin and slingerfan.

Much appreciated. I will follow up,

Robert Anthony

Recommendations for a good polish?

I had heard good things about Blue Magic.

Thanks John!

I’ve used Flitz on chrome and non-chrome metal like tension rods. I think it works great. I get it at Ace hardware.

Then after you have it all polished up, you can sell it to me cheap! It’ll go great with my 1966 Modern Solo set in Sparkling Champagne Pearl!
