Ajax/Ludwig Last viewed: 2 hours ago

An appraiser tells me my Ajax drum has a Ludwig throw. The throw fits perfectly—no extra holes or any signs on the interior drum has been tampered with in any way shape or form. There's a Phillips screw that I know doesn't belong to the drum. So my question is, did Ajax copy the Ludwig throw back in the day, and might this throw be original to the drum? See photos. Thanks.

The throw is factory original. The butt plate is not as far as I know, Ajax didn`t use that teardrop lug after the 50`s I think.

The buttplate should show four attachment screws. It looks put on backwards but no holes.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

The rest of the drum looks factory as well. It`s all there except that plate.

Thank you both for the replies. Wonder how they got a butt that was such an exact fit?

Posted this on a Facebook Ajax site. The consensus was that both the throw and the butt were Ajax and original to the drum. They have to be, because it's such a perfect fit. Anyway, the Ajax throw was obviously a clone of a Ludwig P-84. Thanks again for the help.

I have an almost identical snare in the piccolo style, different white pearl finish with the exact same throw and butt and lugs. Was told the entire snare is all original when I bought it. There is also one on Reverb with the same hardware, just a different badge.

If you don’t mind sharing, what did the appraiser value your snare at?

Thanks

Michael

Your drum is all factory and that is one of B&H butt plates. The one I saw was on a B&H Edgeware.
