Hey guys,
This Leedy bass drum came with the Leedy snare I just picked up. It is 26" and 12" deep.
I'm thinking it is 30's vintage but I'm not sure. Can anyone tell.
Do you think it was part of a set or could it have been a marcher?
It sounds nice and deep and punchy. Actually digging it.
It has hide heads on both sides and as you can see a pretty cool picture on the resonant head.
I would like to strip the paint off of the drum and hoops at some point to see what is underneath.
I haven't taken the heads off yet. I haven't ever messed with, or used, hide heads before so is there anything to know or be careful of when pulling these heads off or putting back on? I'm guessing they are original but maybe not cause they seem to be in great shape but then who knows what the resonant head looks like under the paint. Don't worry, I'm not going to strip the paint off the head!
There is a vent hole, besides the one in the badge, that looks to have had something circular around it at one point.
On the batter side hoop there are a few round indentations that could have been for mounting things like a cowbell or something.
Peeking through the vent hole I'm thinking the shell is mahogany.
Any thoughts on this bad boy? Anyone else use one?
Thanks,
Wes
