NIB Ludwig Black Beauty vs Vintage COB Supraphonic

Loading...

I have an opportunity to pick up a new Black Beauty. In the box new, a rare percussion item at this house (new that is). Has anyone ever compared a vintage COB Supraphonic to a Black Beauty. I would have to think they are nearly identical in sound. Never having played the BB though, I'm not sure. Basically, I've been sniffing around for the COB version. I have the Ludalloy type. Comments?

Hi, As for you question--I think the older 1920-30s ludwig black beautys sound better then the supra's of the the 50s..i have used[and own] b.b."s and supra's..I have talk to [Ross} the Drum Dr in L.A.,ca about this over the years..he thinks the same the brass in the older B.B.'s sound better then say one from the 1970s..maybe becuase of the brass in the new ones?? who knows..But then again one snare i sold to him [drum dr] was a ludwig 4X15 brass shell with 6 lugs that ones seems to be rented out alot for the sound of it...mikey
