Completely agree with you on all points! I didn't bother to view the video because I've seen it before. Any issues, as you mentioned, are in the minority. There were just way too many drummers using Swivo hardware, because it was the best offered. I've NEVER had a Swivo tom holder, single or dual, slip on me. I purchased my first pro kit in 1972, which was a Celebrity kit. Had it more than 10 years and NEVER had any slipping issues with the Swivo tom arm, cymbal holder or leg brackets!

The Swivomatic mounts were the best you could get at the time hence they showed up on all sorts of big name sets/players.

They are great for jazz or light work but not sure the Swivo mounts/holders could hold up for someone playing Travis Barker or Lars Ulrich styles :D

As long as they don't go tubular Pearl style garbage, I'm fine...

Forgot to add - I'm sure even the Swivomatic mounts failed a few times for Bonzo and other heavier players, just not a lot of records for that sort of thing?

Completely agree with both of your posts. But to make the statement that Swivo hardware sucked makes no sense. The history of Swivo hardware speaks for itself and I'll just leave it at that!

Back in the day I played quite a few Rogers sets as well as setting them up.(hundreds of times)

On a pretty consistent basis the tom holder would slip into the bass drum,the BD spurs would allow creep so you had to use the clothesline method of tying the seat to the BD and high hat.the BD pedal disintegrated after about two or three years ,and the cymbal arm BD mount would fall sideways.

All first hand knowledge,no hearsay.

But given that most hardware from the 60's and 70's was dreadful ,why would anybody want hardware that has seen its time?

I suppose Pearl tom mounts exist for certain people. God bless ya for it. Swivo wasn't idiot proof. It did require a certain working mechanical ability to position, set up, and maintain. Two set screws on the socket ball. A lot of guys figured, four holes, four screws. Other guys would be like... tighten that stuff up hard, use a crescent wrench, stick the faucette handle in the hole and crank it around like a plumber. IT wasn't fool proof...and when abused, would fail. I own stuff that is between 52 and 58 years old. At least my swivo era stuff is that old. Some of it I gigged fairly regularly. Certainly not hamfisted. But there has never been a failure in a collet tensioner... machined of course. never broken off an ear, never busted a tilter. I am sure if I put enough hours in weekly, and hit hard enough, I might manage to break something. As for the new stuff.... everything so far is pretty fairly high quality and very pleasing. I was at the Bentleys Rogers Day in Fresno back in October. I cant wait for the sets to come out. Oh, and those Pearly mounts some guys upgraded into … even Pearl wont put them on a new set of nice drums.

I won the opportunity to buy this at the Bentley Rogers Day. It is a 6.5 Prototype Dyna-Sonic. It is unique. This and a 5x14 are the only ones in this finish.

Thank you for weighing in on this topic. My feelings about Swivo hardware mirror yours. My first pro kit, as mentioned previously, was a 1972 Celebrity outfit. Owned it for 10 years. NEVER had any issues with the tom arm and/or collets. And remember, those collet noses were the cast variety, not machined! During those 10 years, I never ruined the noses of those 2 collets, or break an ear! I understood early on to hand tighten only, not use a wrench or other tool. I've had many Rogers kits since then, all with machined collet noses and all have held up perfectly.
