I wasn't aware this had been previously listed. Yes, dual 13" toms definitely not as popular as dual 12" toms. Still, there's no denying that those custom bass drums would have been way ahead of their time. The original owner seems to have been a fairly progressive drummer!

It is a nice piece of historic Rogers work. It's particularly interesting from the point of view of the overall custom set-up and the bass drums, in particular. It seems as if the owner might have been influenced by early Louis Bellson setups that had power from deep bass drums and also used double 13" toms. Of course, that center floor tom Bellson used is even more radical.

Wouldn't the bass drums be easily converted from 18x20 floor?

Hi Wayne!

Technically, yes, they could be converted. Still, I think what we have here is a custom ordered kit where the bass drum shells were originally used for floor toms. The shells were custom drilled to turn them into bass drums. I have no doubt that quite a bit of custom work went on at the Covington factory!
