Japanese Tension Rods

Hello,

I also assume that the ebay offer shows Star tension screws. These screws have tiny differences to other screws: the 'ring' below the square head is thicker and has no rounded edges and the square head itself is looking more angular than at other screws.

From OddBall

quote (out of the link, a special note to Star screws)

This is a special M5 screw used on some old Japanese Drums (Star, Drummate etc..)

Diameter about 4,9 mm and one thread is 0,9 mm high 28 thread per inch

Just for the reference here.

Cheers, Ralf

Thanks everyone for the help. I received the tension rods and they are the right size.

Wow, what a beautiful mij kit! Is that an original finish, or where they redone? Also, great news about those tension rods!

I refinished them. The wrap was in terrible condition when I bought them. It wasn’t glued down, so after I removed the wrap all they needed was a light sanding before staining. Attached is what they looked like when I first bought them.

You did a fantastic re-birth of your kit! Due to the low price of these kits, which is how so many parents could afford to get them for their aspiring drummers, the vast majority have seen better days. Always great to see one brought back to life. Enjoy your kit!
