I think the actual date range would be along the lines of 2001 or 2002 up to around 2008 or so when they started putting specific badges on all their lines. The pewter colored square badge without the "USA" on it was sort of a catch all badge for imported Gretsch drums early on in the Kaman era. It appeared on the early Renowns and these various snare drums.
These drums were quite nice and some did come with the silver sealer inside and die-cast hoops. They did use different throw offs than the USA Customs and other USA made Gretsch lines but they work fine. I have a couple of them I snagged at a good price (4x14 models with the die cast hoops) that I wrapped to match a couple of my sets. Nothing wrong with them at all and very high quality on the build. If it's a good price it would be well worth snagging as a good sounding snare to have to play as long you know what it is (a nice snare drum but not vintage or particularly collectible...at least not yet).
