Hi I have a 70s slingy Dynamo Hi hat . The knob above the pedal is supposed to adjust the amount of pressure you have to apply to hold the cymbals closed. It seems that by turning the knob clock wise it should reduce the tension on the spring, but turning it either way does very little . Is this just the way these are? thanks

I've never figured out why it is there either. Maybe just to make us ask the question.
Should you be able to turn the tension adjustment knob and the tension does not have any effect on the tension, the internal compression spring is broke. It isn't difficult to fix if you are mechanically inclined. There are a few precautions so as not to damage or break a couple of parts.
This thread is over 7 years old!!

This is correct...but, why is this new member responding to such an old thread? Weird!

This subject came up while I was searching for possible information on the Dynamo Hi Hat, and after I read it and some time to think about it, I remembered having this problem 40+ years ago and it didn't look like anyone knew the answer to the asked question, so I decided to answer, even though the question was 7+ years ago!
Hey, Welcome Mr Wild One,
I appreciate you chiming in with your experience, even if it is an old thread. I find myself searching for answers that way all the time.
