Someone painted the interior. That would have had a clear maple interior. The earlier 24's had just one set of spurs, if I recall correctly. Cool set and a fair price. Find a matching 16X16! Probably close to impossible in white satin flame.To clean the finish, use Scrubbing Bubbles with bleach & an soft damp sponge.Get a white reso head for the bass, and not worry about the fact that someone painted it. They probably played it without a head and wanted it to match the exterior finish.Steve.Steve

Hi AlloyBoy!You did good at $350! Yes, your kit is from 1970-71. As stated above, the interiors were painted white. The interiors would have been the "chocolate milk" interior, not clear maple. Concerning the single set of bass drum spurs, the majority of bass drums, regardless of size, did use only one pair. Off the top of my head, I know that the Buddy Rich 80N and Avante kits used two sets of spurs.The "T" bolt on your tom is correct. Slingerland toms for use with the single Setomatic did have this bolt. The drum-key bolts were normally used with the double Setomatic holder, as the toms would be too close together to use T bolts.There was a recent topic about cleaning satin flame finishes. The majority agreed on Scrubbing Bubbles or using a mild water/detergent solution and soft bristle brush to clean the finish. -Mark

Good buy AlloyBoy. Serials suggest '71. Per Dr CJ Wenk shell interiors could be clear maple or "chocolate milk" stained in '70 and '71. As the others have stated the white interior is not original.

AB, I think both you and the seller did well on the transaction. You got a great kit with plenty of opportunity for sweat equity, and he didn't 'give them away', but clearly didn't want to work on a project. I'm really liking the WSF. Those will be beautiful when you are done, and single set-o-matic is without a doubt the most iconic of tom mounts. Proceed!John

Hi Mark!Thanks for the input. After removing the heads on the 14"tom and the 16" floor tom, i noticed they have the reinforcement rings and the "chocolate milk" interior. So the 1970-71 date seems correct.Also, I have a Super rock 51N, it has the double spurs on the 14x24. The Avante set I own is 14x22, and you are correct, they have double spurs. Finally, I have a'79 Time Machine set #651T. That also has double spurs on the 14x24. I guess Because of all my bass drums having double spurs, I thought they all did!! hahahaha...Last question. I assume these were not a "set" of any kind, just someone who walked in a store and said "I want that drum with that drum, etc""??
