We've all heard the horror stories about vintage Ludwig drums. The poor quality control, the wrap going into the shell making a buldge and spotty edges, yet, the drums sound so darn good! How can this be? I'm not sure, but whatever they did, really worked.Cool1Clapping Happy2
Why Do Ludwig Drums Sound So Good Last viewed: 2 hours ago
"Really worked"...some may disagree, but my opinion is they didn,t get technical at all. No laser cuts, waxed edges, exotic wood from Indonesia etc. Its a primitive instrument and basic rules and theory were implemented..The K.I.S.S. theory.

I'm assuming you are speaking of the original 3-ply shells.......in which case, yes there was all of that, but so was everyone else's at that time.....why did they sound so good? It was the calfskin heads! :D
Ya, the 3ply shells with the rounded over edges and it's not just the sound but the feel. I absolutely love Ludwig drums.
ya know Mark, I've often wondered the same thing. but i guess it is because they are so good. love my ludwigs and will never part with them. Ludwig rules in my book.

LOL, Really . I am an old fan of vintage Ludwig drums . I used to have an early 1970s set before. I guess it's only matters on the brand of Ludwig that you get .And the style . The Rocker's set was a good set . Most of the Ludwig drums didn't sound bad . Sound pretty god to me ..
Ludwig fan here also. I have owned and played Rogers, Slingerland, Camco, Pearl, Fibes, Apollo and Kent drums but I seem to like the Ludwigs the best.
Thank you!
