Yeah.

It’s actually sad. With such a good name, they should have went upmarket and paired with Pearl or someone like that. Or maybe go it alone and make their own shells. Keller would have been happy to supply shells.

Not using standard wooden shells was probably their biggest blunder, along with the sub-standard hardware they used. Those Remo drums had shells made out of composite material; in other words, glue and sawdust. I remember them touting this stuff as some new wonder material that would revolutionize the drum world. Tell me another one. They still use this stuff on their exotic world music drums, like djembes and so forth. Maybe they've improved it.

When I was at the Zildjian factory years ago, they had one of Louie's Remo drumsets on display. The WMP wrap finish was hanging of one of the toms, and there was busted hardware too. Junk.

In any event, the Remo drumsets were pure dogs in almost every way. A few of the finishes were interesting. It reminded me of the time Kaman went into the drum business with Legend drums. They didn't last long either.

Perhaps the reason you almost never see Remo drums for sale anymore is because they've all fallen apart. Just like that lousy Chevy Vega I had years ago. What a POS.

I thought the Gold Crown were high end drums as well. Jeff Hamilton endorses (or at least used to endorse) them.

The reason I say "used to" is because I no longer see any reference to them on Remo's website.

See...sometimes, in spite of the negatives, there is always a buyer! Congrats on your sale!

The kits were a bomb. I have a Master Edge 13 snare that's actually quite nice.

Wasn't Jeff Hamilton playing Remo drums for a while?

All of the most recent footage I've seen on YouTube is Jeff still playing on a Gold Crown bop kit. It might just be his playing, but I think those gold crown kits sound amazing... at least his does.
