I honestly don't know! I obtain all my MIJ snare drums because they look cool. Most of them sound so-so. I do have an early 70's 10-lug Revelle that sounds good, though!-Mark
Haha, I get it! I really love the finish on that Crown snare you posted above. I have a 5" Star with 8 Slingly style lugs and no re-rings that sounds really good and I've found myself using it a lot this summer so far. It has a cool compound strainer design that I think held over into the onset of the Tama brand.
This snare I'm asking about is actually almost identical in finish to my Star, which is kinda holding me back. It's only $50 (what I also paid for the Star), and I thought the difference in shell construction might yield a different tone. The seller hasn't sent additional pics of the strainer yet either, and I'd want to see that before I made an offer.
