Ralph,Below are some links to pics and descriptions of a couple of nice (older) "Star" / Pre-Tama snares in my collection. Here's a beautifully restored Gen 1 King Beat ...http://members.cox.net/klynch99/Kevs_Gen1_TamaStar_KingBeat_Snare5X14.htmHere's a nice rare 10 lug Kings Stone "Stencil" drum ...http://members.cox.net/klynch99/Kevs_5X14_StarKingsStone_snare.htm Enjoy. Kevin

Absolutely gorgeous drums! I too have one of the 8 lug versions of the heavy COS, but mine has the round, blue "Made In Japan" badge on it. I got it for a total of $19.00 including shipping off the bay. When it arrived I was expecting a wreck. It was dirty and dusty, but once cleaned, it looked as though it had seen maybe 5 lessons and into the closet for 35 years. I also came up with an original high-end Stage Master or Stage Ace stand in perfect condition. I love these old MIJ drums. The kit in the background is a fully restored very early 60's Pearl(presumably), as the T-rods are not Star, it must be a Pearl stencil. There are no badges, nor have there ever been. Tis kit has it's own sound, nothing has a tone like it, and everyone that plays it for the first time is stunned by the cannon-like tones.

I run a Fyberskin 3 topside and it has it mellowed and under control, not wild and ringy like many of the guys report as one of the major problems they have with this shell. I love it!

"Ignorance may be overcome through education. Stupidity, however, is a lifelong endeavor." So, educate me, I don't likes bein' ignant...

Hey all... first post here. Just wanted to jump in with the Star/RoyalStar snare appreciation. I have one of those 10-luggers with a heavy COS shell that I absolutely love. Here she is... Also own a matching-badge RoyalStar kit in funky red satin flame. Maybe I'll throw some pictures up of it as well. One of my favorite snares of all time happens to be a round badge Star snare (light 8-lug). There is some mojo in this one that I've not heard anywhere else. Glad to be here and hope to contribute more. Cheers,Ryan

I'm Ryan as well!

Also, I just scored one of those Star, 8 lug, COS, oval badge snares. It's heavier then I thought it would be, in a good way. It sounds amazing, and I haven't even done anything with it yet.

It has some unique features, including the lug design (sexy), strainer and butt plate. I'll give it a good cleaning, some new heads and snares. This will be a nice match for my early 70's Star kit.

It seems to have the same shell, lugs, muffler as the Royal Star snare...but a slightly different badge (missing the "Royal" in it), and different strainer/butt plate?...anyone have more information or insight, please educate.

I got the snare with a newer Yamaha snare stand for $25.00, I've already sold the stand for $30.00. Can't complain about that. Another great Facebook score. I've had some great luck on there for snares.

Cheers.

Your's is the 'Professional model no. 8256' (in case of with 8 lugs) from the early 70s.

You can find your snare in this catalogue, on the left side:

PM sent.
